Dr. Euan Ashley

Author and Professor of Medicine and Genetics

Dr. Euan Ashley is Associate Dean and Professor of Medicine and Genetics at Stanford University in California. Over the last decade his team has focused on the application of the human genome to medicine. He was recognized by the Obama White House for his contributions to Personalized Medicine and awarded the American Heart Association Medal of Honor for Genomic and Precision Medicine. His recent book The Genome Odyssey – Medical Mysteries and the Incredible Quest to Solve Them was released in 2021. He is co-founder of three companies: Personalis, DeepCell and SVEXA. 

Dr. Ashley is best known for his work translating insight from the human genome to medicine. In 2009, he led the team that carried out the first medical interpretation of a human genome. The work was featured at the Unlocking Life’s Code Exhibit of the Smithsonian museum and recognized at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy “Data to Knowledge to Action” event. In 2010, Ashley’s team carried out the first whole genome molecular autopsy.Father to three young Americans, in his spare time, he tries to understand American football, plays jazz saxophone, and conducts research on the health benefits of single malt Scotch whisky.
