Dave Barry

Author, Columnist, and Humorist

David Barry is an American author and columnist who wrote a nationally syndicated humor column for the Miami Herald for more than 20 years.

He has been a professional humorist ever since he discovered, by his own admission, that professional humor was a lot easier than working. The New York Times pronounced him “the funniest man in America”, although he admits that it could have been on a slow news day when there was not much else fit to print.

Barry is the author more than 30 books, and is working on his next one, Swamp Story, to be released in 2023. Set in the Florida Everglades, it tells the story of Jesse Braddock, trapped living in a tiny cabin deep in the Everglades with her infant daughter and her ex-boyfriend, a wannabe reality-TV star who turned out to be a lot prettier on the outside than on the inside. Nothing in the story goes as planned. This is, after all, Florida.

Barry’s other bestsellers include Lessons From Lucy, Dave Barry’s Complete Guide to GuysDave Barry Turns 40Dave Barry Is Not Making This Up, and many more.

A wildly popular syndicated columnist best known for his booger jokes, Barry won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for commentary.

Barry Plays in the Rock Bottom Remainders band that has raised over $2 million for charity. Other band members include Stephen King, Amy Tan, Sam Barry, Ridley Pearson, Scott Turow and Roy Blount, Jr, to list a few. Barry admits the band is not very good but they do play loudly.
