Authors on the Plaza

Extending the Festival to Sonoma Valley Residents

About the Event

Authors on the Plaza debuted in 2019. Thanks to generous underwriting by Cathy and Chuck Williamson, more than 400 people heard two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins and best-selling author Roger McNamee give memorable presentations.

A cherished component of the Sonoma Valley Author’s Festival is our annual Authors on the Plaza event. This free, family-oriented event invites Sonoma Valley residents who might not otherwise take part the Festival to enjoy presentations by visiting authors at the historic Sonoma City Plaza.

The inaugural event opened with performances by local, world-renowned musicians Philip Claypool and Carlos Reyes. Laura Zimmerman, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist with a long history of support of Sonoma’s best non-profit organizations, served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening. Rounding out the community involvement, Readers’ Books—the locally owned independent bookstore in Sonoma—was the onsite bookseller. Many in attendance purchased books and had them signed by the authors immediately after the event.

This year, we aim to to dramatically expand the reach of this free community celebration. You can support this effort by becoming a Festival Sponsor or Donor today. We also work with many Donor Advised Funds, Family Foundations, and Community Foundations to make Students Day a continuing success.
