Dave Barry

Beloved and hilarious humorist, author, and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist

Dave Barry’s witty and irreverent take on the mundane, absurdities of everyday life, and his knack for mining comedy from both trivial and serious subjects, have made him a household name and a beloved figure in American popular culture. His enduring appeal lies in his fearless, often zany exploration of life’s foibles, grounded in razor-sharp wit and boundless comic energy.

Barry is back with a new book – Class Clown – that The New York Times describes as a “home run” for humorous literature, commending Barry’s ability to retain his wonderfully juvenile style while adding new layers of depth and bittersweetness.

Celebrated as a humorist, bestselling author, and award-winning columnist, Barry first gained fame for his nationally syndicated Miami Herald column, which ran from 1983 to 2005 and appeared in more than 500 newspapers across the U.S. and internationally. He catapulted to national stardom when he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary while at the Miami Herald, becoming one of the rare humorists to receive journalism’s highest honor. The Pulitzer committee praised him for using humor to offer fresh insights into serious topics.

Dave Barry’s writing career began in Pennsylvania, where he developed his distinctive comedic style as a local reporter and editor.

Beyond his newspaper columns, Barry is renowned for dozens of best-selling books, including fiction, essay collections, children’s novels, and satirical nonfiction. His work inspired the CBS sitcom Dave’s World, and his role in popularizing International Talk Like a Pirate Day has left a quirky mark on American humor.
