Akbar Ahmed is Chair of Islamic Studies at American University in Washington, DC and former Pakistani High Commissioner to the U.K. and Ireland. Ambassador Ahmed was named “the world’s leading authority on contemporary Islam” by the BBC. He also serves as a trustee for the world Faiths Development Dialogue, chaired by Lord George Carey, former Archbishop of Canterbury. Previously, he was a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, the First Distinguished Chair of Middle East and Islamic Studies at the U.S. Naval Academy. Ambassador Ahmed has written several books on the Middle East and Islam and produced the documentaries Journey Into Europe and Journey Into America.
