Healthcare in America is in the midst of a momentous sea change and Dr. Deepak Srivastava, President of the Gladstone Institutes, will share why we are entering an era where we will no longer have to accept disease, but instead prevent life-threatening ailments, or provide curative therapies that eliminate diseases entirely.
Dr. Srivastava will discuss the shift from the “fee for service” model doctors use today to a model where doctors get paid to prevent patients from getting diseases or they provide curative therapies that eliminate disease altogether, these all driven by the advances in technology. How is gene replacement therapy, gene editing, and stem cell biology impacting medical treatments today? What is the revolution in treatment that uses cells as a therapeutic? Rather than taking a pill every day for decades, what if your cells could be engineered to deliver a medicine for the rest of your life?
Fresh off his 2023 Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Heart Association, Srivastava will join us in Sonoma in April to discuss the ways in which medicine will be almost unrecognizable 20 years from now and how that transformation is starting right now.
Srivastava is the co-founder of two biotech companies to take key new research discoveries to clinical trials. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine and a former president of the International Society for Stem Cell Research.
Srivastava received his BS from Rice University, MD from the University of Texas, trained in pediatrics at UCSF, and in pediatric cardiology at the Children’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He received the E. Mead Johnson Award for the most outstanding research related to childhood disease, and his articles have appeared in Cell, Nature and Science.
“I see a future where we’ll be using today’s advances in genetics, artificial intelligence, and other scientific fields to quickly identify and actually cure diseases,” says Srivastava. “It’s impossible to not be excited about this revolution.”
