Meenakshi Ahamed

Meena Ahamed

Calcutta-born journalist and narrative historian redefining how we understand India’s rise—and its powerful, evolving partnership with America and the world.

At a moment when immigration, meritocracy, and diversity ignite fierce debate across the nation, Ahamed delivers something rare: clarity. Her work cuts through slogans and stereotypes, offering a rich, deeply human narrative that challenges both triumphalism and nativism. The result is a perspective that is at once balanced and urgently relevant.

Dividing her time between the United States and India, Ahamed operates from a uniquely global vantage point—rooted in South Asia, fluent in American politics, and attuned to the tectonic shifts of power in a changing world. She brings into focus the human stories behind diplomacy, migration, innovation, and influence—stories that shape the century ahead.

Her earlier book, A Matter of Trust: U.S.–India Relations from Truman to Trump, Ahamed produced a sweeping, archive‑rich account of the often fraught but ultimately interdependent ties between the world’s oldest and largest democracies. A Matter of Trust is notable for its blend of diplomatic history, biography, and a lucid explanation for readers.

Beyond her writing, Ahamed has served on boards such as Doctors Without Borders, Drugs for Neglected Diseases, Turquoise Mountain Foundation, and the Vellore Christian Medical College Foundation, reflecting a long‑standing commitment to global health, humanitarian work, and cultural preservation.

After receiving a master’s degree in development economics and public health from the Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), Ahamed worked at the World Bank and as a London correspondent for New Delhi Television before building a distinguished career as a journalist with bylines in the New York Times, Washington Post, The Atlantic, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal.

Indian Genius is an essential work for understanding the story of modern America. With captivating profiles, Meena Ahamed details how extraordinary Indian Americans are shaping the future in this country, from Silicon Valley to Washington, D.C.” — Eric Schmidt, Former CEO Chairman, Google
