Liza Gershman

Liza Gershman

Author, photographer, and educator, whose new cookbook and visual journey, Farm + Market: Healdsburg, celebrates the farmers, chefs, and local bounty of Sonoma County.

In Farm + Market: Healdsburg, author and photographer Liza Gershman turns her lens toward one of America’s most dynamic regional food communities. The book is not simply a collection of recipes, but a portrait of the small organic farmers who shape the agricultural identity of Sonoma County and make its most celebrated dining rooms possible through their dedication to soil health, biodiversity, and impeccable seasonal ingredients.

Gershman’s work documents a living ecosystem from the inside, showing how the close relationships between organic farmers and chefs drive menu innovation, sustain local economies, and give upscale restaurants the distinctive sense of place that diners travel to experience.

Drawing from two decades spent documenting rural America and international culinary traditions, Gerhsman has a unique understanding of why regional identity remains vital in an era of globalized taste and how and why farmers’ markets function as critical and beloved cultural anchors.

Gershman is a multidisciplinary storyteller, author of 19 books, and Winner of the Gourmand World Cookbook Award (2018). She has nearly two decades of industry experience across all facets of publishing, commercial and editorial photography, writing and design, art direction, and creative direction. She is also a former associate chair of photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).

Gershman’s 2021 book, County Fair: Nostalgic Blue Ribbon Winning Recipes From America’s Small Towns, was featured by Smithsonian Magazine as one of the Ten Best Books About Food of 2021, and her book, Cuban Flavor, won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award.

Featured on CBS, in Travel & Leisure, and on NPR, as well as in numerous local and national media, Gershman has also spoken on the campuses of LinkedIn, Google, Uber, Twitter, Oracle, and Disney. In 2010, she was Governor Jerry Brown’s campaign photographer, and in 2014 was a photographer for America’s Cup.
