Two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and CFR senior fellow
Two-time Pulitzer finalist Sebastian Mallaby’s new book, The Infinity Machine, draws on unprecedented access to Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis to reveal the high-stakes quest to build superintelligence, a technology that could reshape science, the economy, and humanity itself.
Mallaby is the Paul A. Volcker Senior Fellow for International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations and one of the most acclaimed chroniclers of power, money, and innovation. A two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, he is the author of six books, including the investment classics More Money Than God and The Power Law. His biography of Alan Greenspan, The Man Who Knew, won the Financial Times/McKinsey Business Book of the Year.
Mallaby spent thirteen years at The Economist, reporting from London, Africa (where he covered Nelson Mandela’s release and the collapse of apartheid), Japan, and Washington, where he was bureau chief. He then spent eight years as a columnist and editorial board member at the Washington Post. An Oxford history graduate, he co-hosts CFR’s weekly podcast The Spillover, which explores how global events ripple across geopolitics, technology, and markets.
