Award-winning cultural anthropologist, professor, author, and artist, with an eagerly awaited new book on goddesses, set for publication later this year.

Lauren Coyle Rosen is an award-winning cultural anthropologist, professor, author, singer-songwriter, and visual artist whose work spans law, culture, politics, and spirituality. Her upcoming book, Goddess: A History, is a sweeping global history of goddesses, exploring how their erasure from patriarchal religions has shaped society and celebrating the complexity and power of these divine feminine figures as essential to the foundations of our government, commerce, and social philosophies.

Coyle Rosen holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago. Her academic and creative work bridges scholarship and art, exploring the moral and imaginative dimensions of justice, beauty, and transcendence.

She is the author of twelve books, including four works of nonfiction and eight volumes of poetry and visual art. Her acclaimed scholarly book, Fires of Gold: Law, Spirit, and Sacrificial Labor in Ghana, examines the intersections of religion, economy, and postcolonial law in West Africa. Her most recent book, Law in Light, explores the spiritual and legal worlds of Akan path communities in Ghana and the United States, illuminating the role of female divine power and sacred governance in shaping moral life. She is also the co-author of musician Ani DiFrancoโ€™s book, The Spirit of Ani: Reflections on Spirituality, Feminism, Music, and Freedom.

Coyle Rosen has released five acclaimed music albums, including, most recently,ย The Fate of Art. She founded and writes forย The Spiritual Musesย magazine and is currently a fellow at Harvard University. She was previously a professor of cultural anthropology at Princeton University, where she received the President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, among other honors.
