The Sonoma Valley Authors Festival (the “Festival”) values your privacy. Because the Festival gathers certain types of information from and about users of our website, we want to make you aware of our policies and the terms and conditions surrounding the gathering and use of that information. This Privacy Statement contains details regarding our practices and your choices relating to how we collect, use and disclose personal and other information about our guests, visitors and users.

You may provide Personal Information to us when you use our website, including any website where this Privacy Statement is posted, and any subdomains or mobile versions (collectively, the “Site”).  “Personal Information” is information which can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, such as their name, mailing address, email address, etc. whether used alone, or when combined with other personal or identifying information which is linked or linkable to a specific individual.  We typically collect Personal Information and other data from you, and use that information in the following ways and as otherwise set forth in this Privacy Statement or otherwise communicated to you from time to time (subject to your consent when required by applicable laws).

By visiting our Site, you agree that any Personal Information that we collect from or about you through our Site, including personally identifiable information, anonymous information, and aggregate information, will be handled as described in this Privacy Statement. Your use of our Site, and any dispute over privacy, is subject to this Privacy Statement and any other applicable agreements between you and the Festival, including any applicable limitations on damages and the resolution of disputes.  Please be advised that the practices described in this Privacy Statement do not apply to information that you may submit to digital properties maintained by other companies or organizations to which we may link.

Collection and Use of Information

The Festival collects Personal Information voluntarily given by users. For example, if you sign up for a newsletter or email updates, we will collect an email address. If you contribute to the Festival or purchase a ticket, we will collect a name, billing address, and information needed to complete a transaction.  Our website can be viewed without providing personal information. Here are some Festival services provided via websites, email, and social media that might require you to submit personal information:

  • When you subscribe to receive newsletters or program-specific updates via email.

  • When you register to attend an event, participate as a speaker, volunteer to assist the Festival, or apply to participate in a Festival-related activity.

  • When you contact Festival staff through email, social media, or the website.

  • When you make a monetary contribution or payment to the Sonoma Valley Authors Festival.

  • When you register to receive event, information restricted to participants and provided via the website, email, push alerts, or social media.

  • When a speaker or event attendee completes a form providing consent to record and publish their likeness and/or remarks.

  • As you inquire about job openings or apply for a job.

The Festival may also collect information about your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. This is statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns and does not identify any individual. For the same reason, we may obtain information about your general internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on the hard drive of your computer. Cookies help us to improve Site and to deliver a better and more personalized service.

This Site does not use cookies explicitly. The Site may use third party code and libraries, however, that use cookies to collect information and improve their services. As described above, our Site include functionality (such as ticket purchases) provided by third parties and may also contain links to third party sites. When you make purchases through third parties, we do not receive or store your payment account information, as the purchase and payment transaction is processed by the third party. We may receive your email address, however, or the last 4 digits of your credit card (for confirmation purposes), or other information provided during a purchase from the company through which your transaction was processed.  Any third-party websites or services to which our Site links may use cookies, independently collect data or solicit Personal Information, and you should carefully review the privacy policies of these third parties before providing them any Personal Information. This Privacy Statement does not apply to any information you submit to third-party websites or services, including, without limitation, any sites to which our Site may redirect you for purchasing tickets, or other sites that may be connected to our Site by hypertext link or otherwise.

With Whom May We Share Your Information?

Personal Information we collect may be shared with a variety of parties, depending upon the purpose for and context in which that information was provided. For instance, if you purchase a ticket on our Site or through links we provide, your Personal Information may be shared with trusted third parties in accordance with this Policy.

Please note, if you use any social media plugin, API, or other similar feature, use an event hashtag or similar link, or otherwise interact with us or our Site via social media, anything you post may be made available on our Site or to the general public. We may share, rebroadcast, or redisplay that information or other information derived from your social media interactions to the extent permitted by the terms of use governing the relevant social media service.

We may, without your consent, share Personal Information and other data with service providers who provide certain services on our behalf, or in the other circumstances noted below.
